New Year: New Wardrobe by a Personal Stylist

Standard

My personal Snob Box! Got a sequins top, poufy skirt,  golden clutch, earrings and necklace.

There is nothing better for a lady to begin her new year with some new and exciting outfits for the upcoming year. Now, if you are like me and A) usually don’t have the time to shop and/or B) end up the buying the same style clothing, you should try Snob Box!

What is Snob Box? Well, Snobbox basically is a personal styling service that sends you a box of 5 items (usually one complete set that includes a top, bottom, earrings, necklace and bag) that is personally picked up for you by a professional stylist. This service enables one to experiment with looks, latest trends, and styles all in the comfort of your house.

How does it work?

  1. Go to the website and fill out a quick style questionnaire about yourself. The service allows you to choose a price point as well for the box with the basic box and all 5 items being between Rupees 3000-4500.
  2. Select a date of when you want your box and wait to be surprised.
  3. When the box arrives, try on all the items and keep what you want and return what you don’t. The best part? The courier/shipment company comes back and picks up the box so you never have to step out of the house.

I ordered my first Snobbox a few weeks ago. I was so elated to see that this service had finally started in India, and I wasn’t disappointed. I appreciated that my stylist actually called me to talk about my personal style and preferences, and for the most part got my box quite right. I kept 3 out of 5 items.

The only draw back to this service was that I sent a few emails to the main email address regarding my return and never got a reply. It wasn’t  a pressing issue so I let it go, but it is something to think about for this startup as it expands to new cities (they current service Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune & Delhi).

Receiving my Snob Box was like giving myself a gift 🙂 I look forward to trying their services again when I need to add some new pieces to my wardrobe.

Amazing Thailand!!!!

Standard

Hello! Hello! I know it’s been a while for us writing…like my blogging partner said, the last 6 months of 2014 went by in a whirlwind. Honestly, a lot of times I did sit down in front of my laptop and thought about writing a post, but I then I was like “I have nothing to share.” So back again, I would switch off the laptop, and go on with the daily routine. My husband constantly asked why I wasn’t blogging and I kept saying I have nothing to write about; in all honesty, I was getting a bit lazy. But as they say, absence makes the heart go fonder and I am back!

A lot happened in 2014….probably the biggest is the fact that we are expecting a baby in May!!!! A million emotions are constantly running through me, feelings of excitement an d nervousness. I think I might write a separate post on all that I keep constantly thinking about.

Let me get back to what this blog is supposed to be about, as the title suggests, I just came from a quick 4 day trip to Bangkok. It’s the city I grew up in and even though most of my friends and family have moved on….the city still holds a super special place in my heart. The last time I visited Bangkok was almost 6/7 years ago and while a lot has changed, a lot hasn’t.

So what did I do in Bangkok? I ate, shopped, slept, ate, shopped, slept….on repeat. I guess that is what a good vacation is about. I constantly complain that the Thai food in India doesn’t quite make the cut. Some places (ex: Baan Tao or Polka Dots in Pune have good curries), but they don’t get that 100% authentic taste. Also they say, street food in Thailand is the best, so I was pretty much on a mission to make my husband try all the food that I grew up eating…from the krapao kai…to Swensens ice-cream to Paprika chips.

We, also, did do a lot of shopping for the baby. Yes, you can find almost everything you need for a baby in India (thank you Amazon.in), but variety is an issue. I fell in love with almost all the baby things I saw and actually had to be told to stop shopping for the baby (the malls in Bangkok probably deserve a separate post as well).

It was a much needed trip. I am back feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to take on the next 6 weeks of work. Bangkok….I am not sure when we will meet next, but till next time….see ya!

Summer in U.S.

Standard

Last week I made a super quick trip back to the States! Looking back I can’t believe that I have been living in India for close to two years. How has it been? Well, somedays have been excruciatingly difficult-I was constantly questioning will I  ever adjust to India. Somedays, the smallest task would emotionally drain me. On other days, living in India was no different (I mean sure it is different – but I felt content on an emotional level); I felt like I actually fit in.

A lot of my friends asked me how it felt to be back in the States. My answer is that it felt very comforting. Having called the States my home for 10 years made me super familiar with things. I mean I knew where to go for things, how to get things done, the directions, what questions will be asked while ordering my favourite sushi or meal, etc., and it felt really good. In India, I am still figuring a lot of this out. In all honesty, going to a new place in India on my own freaks me out because I feel I never know what to expect or more importantly how people will react. In States, I feel, there is a certain decorum and I probably feel that way because I am so familiar with everything. In one way, I felt me and free. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that I did my “growing up” in the States-meaning I spent probably the most crucial years of me being who I am now there.

What I enjoyed the most during my one week stay was meeting up with people and talking as if nothing has changed. While in India, I am still getting to know most people; in the States, I have a group of friends, who are practically family, that have known me for years. We bonded over some amazing food and made new memories to hold on to.

Now no trip of mine is without food and oh boy did I try to fit as much as I could in my stomach. Now some might say, that I am all talk with food and usually just eat a bit or two and then I am done; I beg to differ in my thought. I stuffed my face with sushi from Pacific East, Chipotle, Melt sandwiches, Oreo Cheesecake, and Dave’s Cosmic Sub’s “The Grateful Dave”! Never did I think I would miss food so much-but I guess it’s the small things that you miss the most.

School is starting next week, so I am grateful that I had a chance to make this trip. The summer was a good one-nice balance of travel and rest. On my flight back to India, I also realised that it took me almost 3-4 years to completely adjust to the States, may be it will take me as long to start feeling 100% comfortable in India (I hope it’s sooner). So cheers to India! Let’s get start a new phase now!

Sephora Haul

Standard

Over the holidays I placed an order online with Sephora since my cousin was coming down for a visit to India. Buying makeup from the US turns out cheaper as is, but since I placed my order around Christmas I managed quite a bit of discounts as well.DSC00475

My order consisted of seven items, in addition to samples and a free Lip Lines Clutch with contained 12 samples.

Smashbox Blush Rush in Heartbreak: I absolutely love this color on myself, and have been using it for a few years. Since I have run out of it, this seemed a perfect purchase. The color is a dark bronze with slight shimmer, and looks great with dark eyes and pale lips.

DSC00476L’Occitaine Hand Cream in Cherry Blossom: I always carry a travel size tube in my bag since I am very OCD about moisturizing, and I have almost run out of my favorite Soap & Glory. Anyone who has ever used L’Occitane products know that it produces some good quality products. I have been using their body lotions over the summer for a while now.

nailsincNails Inc Autumn Winter Collection: I am not exactly sure why I ordered this other than it having six nail colors, making it convenient. I do like the colors though, and they are one that I would use on a regular basis. Plus I have read some really good reviews about their nail colors.

Nails Inc Feather Effect: This did look quite good online, but having tried it I am disappointed. To achieve the desired effect you need to put in excess of five coats.

DSC00478Nails Inc Beaded Polish: I have been dying to try to caviar/beaded nail colors since they were launched and I just could not find them here in India. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally try them for myself, and as with the feather effect this was a disappointment. The bead are actually pretty tiny, and instead of a beaded effect it just turns out like badly applied nail color.

smashboxglossSmashbox Wondervision Lip Gloss Set: I absolutely love Smashbox! And their holiday gift packs are always worth purchasing. You can never go wrong with their glosses-the color is perfect and it does not leak when you close the cap. No one wants a sticky makeup bag. This is a set of five, from pale pink to blood red.

DSC00480Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream: I have been using the travel size I received with some duty free purchases and it’s excellent for daily use. I am an all out Clinique fan when it comes to my face. I wash off with the Clinique face bar for combination skin, follow it with the scrub, toner, and finally the moisturizing cream. I hardly ever deviate from their products and the couple of times I have tried experimentation my face has broken out.

liplines clutchLip Lines Clutch with 12 Samples: Sephora usually has daily or weekly gifts that you can choose if your purchase hits a minimum amount. Some of the items I received were Bumble and Bumble oil, Desire by Dolce and Gabbana, and Floral by Gucci.

Finally I had the option of using three free samples with my purchase and I opted for Especially Escada by Escada and Desire by Dolce and Gabbana. And I am in love with Desire-definitely purchasing a full size the next I am at duty free. It’s extremely similar to Allure by Chanel, which is one of my all-time favorite scents.

I used to shop so much back in Bangkok, but since moving back to India I kind of miss the whole experience associated with it. The options are quite limited, and the malls are terribly tiny. So, it’s mostly online shopping now or waiting until I make my trip back home. Or I ask my brother to shop for me-he is amazing that way!

Pune Farmer’s Market: Piggy Cupcake Blast!

Standard

Two months ago I attend my first ever Pune Farmer’s Market. I had been hearing about the event in the past and finally was able to check it out. I was quite impressed and vowed to make it back. This time around I attend the latest Pune Farmer’s Market, held at the Westin, not only as a visitor but also as a vendor. I was assisting my sister-in-law’s venture, Once Upon a Cake, display its customized and delicious cupcakes. They were showing a wide range of animal and hand painted cupcakes. Helping the booth was tons of fun, as we got to see little kids go ga-ga after the piggy cupcakes. They were my personal favorite as well. It was so great to see her work get so much appreciation.

I did have a chance to see the other booths; vendors from Bangalore, Pune, and Mumbai presented an exciting mix of food, fresh produce, drinks and arts and craft. Oh, wait, there was more; several vendors led mini demonstrations on food and there was also a quick 10 minute foot massage offered by the Four Fountains Spa. So if you were tired of walking around, foot relaxation was just a second away-now how can one go wrong with that?

Piggy, watermelon flavored, cupcakes! They were a HUGE hit :)

I gorged on delicious garlic hummus and tacos, sipped on my new go-to- drink, Sparkling Passion Fruit from Good Juicery, and viewed some awesome art work. It was a Sunday well spent! I can’t wait for the next farmer’s market.
